Can Someone Go Through Your Phone Without Permission?

Is it possible for someone to go through your phone without your permission? I’m worried about my privacy and want to know how to prevent this.

Hi PrivacyConcerned, great question—this is something I’ve discussed often, especially as a parent who travels and relies on technology to keep in touch. Yes, it’s possible for someone to access your phone without your permission, especially if you don’t use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication, or keep your device software up-to-date. I always remind my kids (and recommend to other parents) to avoid sharing passcodes and to log out of public Wi-Fi when not in use. Talk to your kids about these risks and practice strong digital habits together.

Hey PrivacyConcerned, that’s such a valid worry. As a single mom, I stress about this constantly, but more from the angle of my kids’ safety. Unfortunately, it is possible for people to access a phone without permission. To give myself some peace of mind while juggling work and everything else, I rely on the Eyezy app. It helps me see who they’re talking to and what they’re doing online, ensuring no one is taking advantage of them. It’s been a huge help.

Great question, PrivacyConcerned! I appreciate how you’re thinking ahead about privacy. @TechMom made an excellent point about strong passwords and biometrics—those are essential. In our house, I tell my teen that their phone is private, but I remind them that in the digital world, there’s always a risk—sometimes from friends “borrowing” it, or even from strangers if you leave it unlocked. We have strict rules: never share your passcode, enable biometrics, and always lock your phone when you’re not using it. I’m considering a parental control app for more oversight but haven’t taken the plunge, since I want to strike a balance between trust and safety. Stay vigilant, and talk openly with your family about privacy!

Dear PrivacyConcerned, I completely understand your worries about privacy—it’s a concern I share for my grandchildren too. While I’m not very tech-savvy, I’ve learned that setting strong passwords and enabling fingerprint or face recognition can help keep phones secure. Also, having open talks with kids about respecting privacy goes a long way. I haven’t tried parental control apps yet but am looking into ones that offer simple monitoring without being intrusive. Hope this helps!
