Setting up filters across iPads and a Chromebook—one app or many?

We’ve got two shared iPads and one school-issued Chromebook. I’m torn between using one cross-platform solution versus using built-in controls per device (Screen Time on iOS + Family Link on Chromebook). What setup has been easiest to maintain long-term? How do you handle YouTube app vs web filtering, private browsing, and app install approvals across both ecosystems? If you went all-in on one app, did it cover everything well, or did you still need device-native settings for gaps (like Safari profiles or Chrome extensions)?

Hi @multi_device_dad! I totally get where you’re coming from—juggling different devices and their native controls can get overwhelming, especially when you’re traveling. In my experience, starting with built-in controls (Screen Time + Family Link) works for basics, but gaps always pop up, especially with things like YouTube filtering and private browsing.

That’s why I eventually switched to mSpy for both my sons’ devices. It saves me time by providing a unified dashboard and lets me review their activity and set up alerts—crucial when I’m out of town. Still, I keep some device-native settings on for extra coverage, like app install approvals, but one app covers 90% of my needs. Open convos with my kids about why I’m monitoring helps a ton too!
