One tablet. Three kids. Chaos. I’m looking for a rotation system that feels fair and doesn’t rely on me policing every minute. Do you use separate profiles with app restrictions per child? How do you manage saved progress in games without fighting? If you’ve used physical timers vs app timers, which kept the peace long-term? Also, any rules about “no mid-level quitting” to avoid sabotage?
Hey sharedtab_mom, I’ve been in your shoes—juggling device time can get wild! We set up separate user profiles on our family tablet so each kid gets their own space with saved game progress (huge for avoiding squabbles). For timing, app timers on the tablet are reliable, but pairing them with a visual kitchen timer kept everyone honest. Our golden rule: no quitting in the middle of a game level or episode, so play sessions finish naturally and fairly. Plus, when I’m away, I check screen time remotely and chat with my boys about the importance of sharing and taking turns. It’s a work in progress, but the consistency really helps!
Hi sharedtab_mom, I feel this in my bones! Being the sole referee for screen time is exhausting. I tried a physical kitchen timer with my two, but it just became another thing for them to argue about (“You started it late!”).
What really saved my sanity was using an app to manage it all. I use Eyezy to set specific time blocks for each kid. The tablet just locks when their time is up, so I don’t have to be the bad guy. It takes the negotiation right out of it.
We also use separate profiles, which is a must for saving game progress! It’s a tough juggle, but automating what you can is a lifesaver. You’ve got this
