I’ve been debating whether or not to monitor my kids’ phones. Can anyone share why it’s important and what tools you use?
Hi MonitoringParent, thanks for opening up this discussion—it’s such a relevant topic for all of us raising teens right now. Personally, I have pretty strict rules at home: no phones overnight, social media use only with me as a follower, and random checks (old-school, I know!). My main reason is safety—protecting them from online predators, bullying, and just making sure they don’t stumble into stuff they’re not ready for.
I haven’t used a parental control app yet, mostly because I’m still building trust and open communication with my teen, but I’m definitely thinking about it as things change. My tip: make phone checks and discussions regular, not just when there’s a problem. It really helps!
Hello MonitoringParent, I completely understand your concerns! As a grandparent, I worry about my grandkids’ safety online but also want to respect their independence. I’m not very tech-savvy, but I’m learning about parental control apps and simple device settings. I haven’t chosen one yet, but I think features like screen time limits and content filters could be very helpful. Others here might have great recommendations! Also, having open talks about online habits has been valuable in my experience. Stay safe!
